Florence Virginia Lane Harris, 97, was born May 13, 1927, in Jesup, Georgia to Dennis Linwood Lane and Bonnie Lee Harper Lane (both deceased), and passed away Thursday, October 24, 2024 at home in Jacksonville, Florida with her family at her side.
Florence met the love of her life, Ben Clifton Harris (deceased) and they were married January 13,1947. They were married 49 years (just 76 days shy of 50 years). They have now been reunited.
Mom was my greatest example of how to love, serve, and forgive. She was the ultimate peacemaker. Mom cared for so many people during her lifetime. There was always someone at church or a friend or neighbor who had no one to take care of them while they were sick. Mom always lovingly did what needed to be done. It was her nature to care for those who needed someone to care for them. Mom loved everyone and everyone loved her.
Mom was the last living charter member of Atlantic Boulevard Baptist Church (aka Brookview Baptist Church) and faithfully served the church for 68 years. Mom taught the 4 & 5 year olds for many years. Recently, she has been attending church with me at Challenge Ministries. She loved her church and more importantly, she loved God and her savior, Jesus Christ.
Besides her husband and parents, Mom is predeceased by her son, Norman Clifton Harris; brothers, Clinton Lavon Lane, Melvin Lawton Lane, Jerry Lamar Lane. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Darlene Harris of Jacksonville, Florida; sisters, Madelyn (Willie) Williams and Janice (Dorman) Thornton of Jesup, Georgia; brother, Roger (Carolyn) Lane of Gainesville, Georgia; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A special thank you to the staff of Community Hospice for the kind and compassionate care they gave Mom - Kate Spencer, Emily Guzman, Michael Campbell, and Jeanette.
