Fred E. Marjenhoff Sr., 86, passed away on October 13, 2013. He was born May 5, 1927 in South Jacksonville, FL. and was graduated from Landon High School in 1945 where he was named All City, All State and All South football fullback. After graduation he enlisted in the Merchant Marines and served on ships delivering supplies along the coast of Italy and Africa during World War II. After the war he became a playground director for Jacksonville Recreation Dept., coached at St. Nicholas playground and other city parks. In 1966 he became General Supervisor of playgrounds and centers and retired on April 6, 1984 as superintendent after 35 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, shrimping, floundering and gardening.
Fred is survived by his wife Lamar, sons Fred Jr, Wayne(Cindy) and Wesley(Tawny); granddaughters Troy, Emily, Sara and Amanda; great granddaughter Kaila, sister Estelle White and brother Richard(Marjorie).
Services will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at 12:00 noon in the Chapel at Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home, 850 St. Johns Bluff Rd, N., Jacksonville, FL 32225. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Chapel Hills Memory Gardens.
