George Peter Pope, “Papo” was born July 31, 1928 and passed away peacefully Sunday December 3, 2017. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. George was a WWII veteran and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. He was a printer for Independent Life and Gulf Life. George served at Promiseland Baptist Church with Tommy Mallard working with children teaching them songs, most of which he wrote himself. His last years were spent loving all his family. Papo was preceded in death by his late wife Tina Pope, one son, Jeff, two sisters Helen Martell and Theresa Brennan. He is survived by one son Peter (Kay) of St. Augustine, four grandchildren, Bryan (Tanya) Pope, Kristi (Scott) Combs, Jordan (Victoria) Pope, Becky Pope, nine great-grandchildren Titus, Briana, Tori, Camden, Connor, Carli, Harper, Audrey, Levy and one sister Anitsa Elsey. A celebration of life will be held at Hardage-Giddens Riverside Memorial Park & Funeral Home on Thursday, December 7, 2017 from 10am-11am. Funeral services to begin at 11am with interment at Riverside Memorial Park.
