

He was born on February 12, 1930, in Jacksonville, FL to Oliver Chunney and Lottie Inez Sheffield and raised by his loving grandparents. George was predeceased in death by his grandparents, mother and his loving wife of 64 years, Joyce Haddock Sheffield.
George joined the Marines when he was 16 and served in WW2 and the Korean Conflict. He used his GI Bill to attend Jones Business College graduating with an Accountant Degree. He worked for Owens Illinois before working for Perrett’s Dairy for over 40 years finishing his career at Callahan Timber. He loved his family and he loved the lake. He spent many hours at his lake house with his family passing on to his children the love of the water, swimming and skiing. He also had a green thumb and could root and grow anything. Later in life he also spent a week every summer going to Myrtle Beach with Joyce to see all the shows.
George leaves behind to cherish his memories daughter, Linda Carter (Billy); sons, Larry Sheffield and David Sheffield; grandchildren, Tracy Cruce (John), Christopher Sheffield, Tasha Sheffield, Tiffani Moyer (Jay) and great-grandchildren, Kadence, Baylie, Jase and Sadie.
The family would like to extend our sincere thanks to the staff at The Canopy at Duval Station and Haven Hospice for the excellent care he received over the last three years.
A visitation will be held on February 21, 2026, at 9:00 am at Hardage-Giddens, Riverside Memorial Park & Funeral Home, located at 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205. A Celebration of Life will follow at the same location on February 21, 2026, at 10:00 am. A Committal Service is scheduled for February 21, 2026, at 11:00 am at Riverside Memorial Park.
