Herschel was born on April 23, 1939 in Tifton, Georgia. He was a Navy Captain and served in the US Navy until retired in 1987. He then worked as a Port Engineer until retirement.
In his later years, he enjoyed a great Beefeater Gin Martini, loved watching sports including the Atlanta Braves baseball and the Georgia Bulldogs football. After the passing of his wife Leslie in 2013, he enjoyed the companionship of his cat Buster.
He loved his wife, Leslie Carswell and was a father to four children Amy Carswell Barker, Paul Carswell, Daniel Carswell and Vanessa Carswell. He has two grand-children Andrew and Ryan Barker and a son-in-law, Chad Barker.
Hersch grew up in Tifton, Georgia. He had a wonderful mother Viola Carswell Johnson and a father John Carswell. He has four younger siblings, Peggy Carswell Bass, Rosemary Hightower Carswell, and Eddie Carswell.
We will celebrate Hersch’s life on November 26th, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home, 850 St. John’s Bluff Road North, Jacksonville, Florida 32225.
