Jacqueline Douglas Herring, age 90, passed away December 30, 2023 at the Life Care Center of Orange Park. She was born in Macon, Georgia on February 8, 1933 to Terry Charles and Marie Douglas. She was a graduate of Lee High School, class of 1951. She then attended the University of Florida. It was there she began her love for football and the Gators, attending the games and the Gator Bowl games with her father.
The Gator Bowl game in December 1952, she went on her first date with John Woodrow Herring. They were married the following August 8, 1953 and that marriage lasted for 67 years until his passing in 2020. Jackie and John enjoyed attending Gator football games. Whether home or away, they enjoyed their Gator friends and travel groups. They also had season tickets to the Jacksonville Jaguar games. In addition to traveling to football games, they enjoyed yearly trips to California with her uncle Grehan Pearce.
Another great love of hers, was studying the Bible. She was a member of the Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) organization for fifteen plus years. She looked forward to delving into the Bible at the weekly meetings and enjoyed her daily studies. There's no doubt in any of our minds of Jackie's salvation and where she will spend eternity. She attended Christian Family Chapel.
Jackie is survived by her daughter Janie West (Gary); son Doug Herring (Lila); grandchildren Hollie Long (Skip), Heather French (Russ), Hannah Whitaker (Jake), Jonathon Herring, Ansley Herring and her fiancé Josh Emerson; great-grandchildren Eli Long, Cale Long, Perry Long, Lainey French, Remy French, Emalyn Whitaker, Maebry Whitaker, Crew Whitaker, and Huck Whitaker; and niece Shelly Cain.
The last couple of years she coveted her friendship with her caregiver, Robin Solomon. She is preceded in death by her husband John Herring.
Those who knew her appreciated her kind gentle and giving ways. Always thinking of what she could do for others. Whether it was lunch dates or phone calls, she felt it was important to know how those around her were doing. Her sweet, encouraging words will be missed. We will carry all the love she gave us in our hearts forever.
A visitation for Jacqueline will be held Monday, January 8, 2024 from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Hardage-Giddens, Riverside Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205. Following the visitation will be a graveside service at 11:00 AM at Riverside Memorial Park.
