Jim, as he was known to his friends, was born in Orange, NJ, the 8th child of Irish Catholic immigrant parents. He is the last surviving member of his 9 siblings. Predeceased by his beloved wife of 64 years, Mary Josephine McGarry, and their eldest son, James Robert McGarry, Jr. (Angel) and granddaughter, Ericka.
Jim was a devoted family man who served the U.S. Army in the Korean War with Commendation before attending Seton Hall University. He then embarked on a life-long career with Anheuser-Busch which brought him to Florida to open their new brewery in Jacksonville in 1968.
Guided by his Catholic faith, Jim gave back to the community by supporting Resurrection and Holy Spirit Parishes and in his leadership of the Arlington Lions Club. Upon retirement he managed the North Florida Hearing Aid Bank which provided hearing aids to those in need. Throughout his life Jim was a shining example of a devoted husband and loving father to his three sons. He is survived by his sons Gerard and William (Laura), 5 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
A requiem Mass will be celebrated at Resurrection Catholic Church, Jacksonville, FL on Saturday, May 18, at 10:00 a.m. Internment at a future date will be arranged at the Jacksonville National Cemetery.
