On Monday, August 17, 2020, James Ray, 82 of Jacksonville, FL passed away peacefully. Born in Philadelphia, PA to Captain J.P. (USN) and Judith Ray, he lived a full and happy life. He married the love of his life, Patricia D. Heath in December of 1960. After graduating from The Tome School, he joined the Navy and proudly served his country for over 22 years as a flight engineer, traveling the world. He was a skilled pistol and rifleman and represented the Navy in many pistol and rifle competitions throughout his career.
Jim was quite the “character” and loved talking to people and telling stories. A captive audience or even a single ear, he had a story to tell...and he definitely wasn’t in any hurry. His stories usually came from a personal experience or an observation and often came with a message and almost always a laugh. Jim was also an avid antique car enthusiast and had a passion for history.
Jim is predeceased by his wife, his parents and his two sisters Judy and Joann. He leaves behind 3 children, Steve Ray (Sandra), Kenny Ray (Michelle), Candi Clymer (Lonnie); 6 grandchildren, Le’Anna Conner, Andrew Ray, Mark Ray, Morgan Hawkins, Bailey Ray, Faith Ray; 4 great-grandchildren, Emma, Annabelle, Brantley and Emersen. He also leaves behind his brothers-in-law Jeff Heath (Ro) and Jerry Heath and his sister-in-law, Gail Keener (Corky) along with his nieces and nephews.
A note of thanks to his loving daughter Candi for the many selfless years of care she provided. We know mom and dad are at peace with the Lord.
Services will be held on Friday, August 21, 2020 at Hardage Giddens Riverside Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd., 32205. Visitation 9:00 - 10:00, Service 10:00. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to American Cancer Society.
