

James Ervin Thompson, 74, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away July 27, 2025. He was born on May 10, 1951, in New Carlisle, Indiana to Blanche and William Thompson. In 1975 he married the love of his life, Paula L. Batalis from South Bend, Indiana. James and Paula spent many happy years living in South Bend and on Eagle Lake in Edwardsburg, Michigan before moving to Jacksonville, Florida in 2007. He spent many years working in the car industry and worked with his son and son-in-law at JD Byrider before retiring in 2020.
James had many loves and interests in life. He loved his wife, Paula, immensely. He loved his three children, four grandchildren, and his dogs, especially his Goldendoodle, Maddie. He loved the Florida Keys, Las Vegas, camping, cruises, and having road adventures with Paula. He loved riding his motorcycle, cruising in his classic MG with the top down, and remodeling classic cars, often winning awards at car shows. He was very creative and loved making things with his 3D printer, often selling his unique creations. James was very kind, patient, and loving to his family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers.
James is survived by his three children: James E Thompson, Jr (Kim Thompson), Katrina Kemble from Chicago, and Renee Fulkerson (Michael Fulkerson); his four grandchildren: Parker Thompson, Emily Thompson, Weston Fulkerson, and Elizabeth Fulkerson; and his Goldendoodle, Maddie.
