WILSON - Jessie “Maxine” James Wilson, 85, born August 26, 1927 in Miami, Florida went home to be with the Lord on March 25, 2013 at 3:20 a.m. She was known as Jessie, Maxine, Mamma, Gramma, and of her most liking, Great Gram. Maxine came to Jacksonville, Florida to be raised by her grandmother and aunts after the unexpected death of her 25 year-old mother. She graduated from high school in Dallas, Texas, where her father was living. Maxine was a diligent and dedicated homemaker to all whom she cared. Maxine enjoyed baking, shopping, and spending time with her family. Her grandchildren brought so much joy to her life, but her great-grandchildren took that joy to new height – that, only a great-grandmother could understand. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, Maxwell Henry James and Georgiana Sallas James; her step-mother, Polly James; her husband, Ben P. Wilson; and her great-grandson, Ben Cosmo Roberts. Maxine is survived by her sister, Georgia James; and her brother, Matthew James (Joyzell); her children Carol Payne (Tommy), Michael Wilson (Peggy Ann), and Tracy Wilson; her grandchildren Stan Raley (Leslie), Julie Hudson (Scott), Guy Payne, Allie Gass (Michael), Shad Wilson (Mallory), Amy Roberts (Mark), and Lindsey Wilson; and her great grandchildren, Shelby Hudson, Abbie Gass, Lydia Gass, Justin Payne, Brady Roberts and Bryn Wilson. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Hardage-Giddens Town and Country Funeral Home, located at 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jax., FL 32205. The family will celebrate Maxine’s life on Wednesday, march 27, 2013 at Spirit of Life Lutheran Church, 2636 New Berlin Road, Jacksonville, Florida, 32226 officiated by Pastor Ellen Cross. A visitation will be held at 12:00 pm, with the funeral at 1:00 pm. It is requested that friends and family wear pink in honor of Maxine’s favorite color.
