

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Joannes Baimba Hotagua Sr. (affectionately known as “Baimba”), who left us on July 23, 2024, at the age of 79. Born on October 28, 1944 in Bo, Sierra Leone, Joannes was the beloved son of Haja Jenebu Sillah and Chief Joannes Bobor Hotagua.
Baimba's early education took place at Christ the King College and St. Edwards Secondary School in Sierra Leone. After moving to the United States, he pursued further studies at Brooklyn College of Pharmacy. He enjoyed a distinguished career with MetLife, where he dedicated over 20 years of service and was known for his exemplary attendance.
Baimba is survived by his devoted wife, Joya Davies-Hotagua. He leaves behind three cherished children: Zainab Hotagua Ntaamah, Joannes Hotagua, Jr., and Joanna Hotagua. He was a proud grandfather to Abeck Ntaamah, Jayden Davies, Christian Cartozian, Ava Davies, and Isaiah Davies. His siblings Kadiatu Ngauja and Catherine Hotagua also mourn his passing.
He was predeceased by his siblings Bintu Kandeh and Sedi Bamba. Baimba is remembered by his family, including the Sillah, Hotagua, Sidikie-Baimba, Boima, Massaquoi, Sesay, Turay, Mansaray, Kaisamba, Kuyateh, Kandeh, Kayla, Kaikai, Anthony, Tambi, Sannoh, Koroma, Kebbay, Gassama, Bojon, Gbongay, Kamara, Sheriff, Collier, Davies, and McCormack families.
The memorial service will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 11665 Fort Caroline Road, Jacksonville, FL 32225, on August 24, beginning at 10:00 AM EST. A Sierra Leone funeral will follow, with details to be announced.
Baimba's memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His legacy of dedication and warmth will be deeply missed.
