John graduated from Baldwin High School, Baldwin Florida in 1969. He was drafted and left for the U.S. Army, August 19,1969; he was in the 82nd Airborne, for 3 years. His military life extended to the National Guard in which he was Special Forces and then Honorably Discharged in 1979, spanning over 10 years. He started his career with Southern Bell Telephone Company as a repairman, January 3, 1974 and ended July 8, 2010 working with them for 36 years. His career didn't stop there as he worked then as a Security Guard at Florida Community College of Jacksonville until 2014. He belonged to the American Legion and was always patriotic and loved his country. But mostly he loved his family and the Love of the Lord.

John was always there and devoted to his wife, children, granddaughters, and friends. If anyone ever needed anything he was there ready to help. He loved going to dances, softball, and soccer games for his granddaughters. They loved his Frosties, Oreos, and Pringle treats.

John was a member of the Baldwin Methodist Church and later changed to First Coast Christian Center, where he was involved with photography and the live streaming of the church service. He and his wife moved from the Whitehouse area to Macclenny and his church membership to Glen Baptist Church of Glen St. Mary. He enjoyed fellowship and working for the Lord.

He enjoyed working outside, watching old movies, documentaries, and here lately "The CHOSEN." He had many talents and gifts that he blessed everyone that knew him, whether it was fixing something, cleaning up or setting up for an event, taking pictures of everyone; he did it to the very best.

John is preceded in death by his parents Ray and Catherine Montean; grandparents Gavrila and Ruby Montean; Catherine Swartz and Joseph Long. He is survived by his wife of 47 years Debi; daughter Devon (John) Parker; son Chad (Cynthia) Montean; daughter Morgan Montean; Five granddaughters Teagan, Savannah, Mallory, Madalyn, Mateyah. Brothers Carl (Linda) Montean, twin brother Richard (Pam) Montean and numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to American Cancer Society and/or American Heart Association.

John,

Linda and I returned home after your service Thursday. It was very difficult to see you at the viewing, but I was glad to see so many people attended your final service. It's hard for me to write this as I have tears in my eyes, knowing, I will never see you again in this life. You were a great friend and brother. I have never and will never, meet anyone as kind, forgiving, and caring as much as you. Thank you for all you have done to make my life as well as the life's of others better.
Love and miss you, your brother,
Carl

John has always been the nicest, most helpful man in the room at any gathering. When I planned the Christmas give-away in December I unexpectedly needed early morning help. I called Debi and asked if I could borrow her husband and his truck. He came immediately and worked hard for 3 days. He enjoyed helping and serving others with his big generous heart. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him! Rest in peace and enjoy your Heavenly Rewards. The "lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant:"

We used to be SO excited to make a trip to Florida to see all of our cousins. The fresh seafood that Aunt Joanne & Uncle Bill would fix for all of us. Us Ohioans would get burnt to a crisp because we weren’t used to Florida sun! What fun we all had!! We love ya’ll and are sending virtual hugs and keeping you in our thoughts and prayers. 💔❤️

I was so sorry to hear about John. My last memory of him was at our 50th BHS Class Reunion. He looked great and quite healthy, so I was quite surprised at his passing. I have fond memories of John when we were friends in High School. My deepest condolences to Richard & Pam, Carl and the John Montean family.
