Katie Lynn Steffens

Katie Lynn Steffens, 17, of Jacksonville passed away peacefully Monday, June 27, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family. Born in Jacksonville Beach, she was a lifetime area resident. Katie was a member of New Day JAX church and had just completed the 11th grade at the New Leaf School. She was a caring, loving and just all around good kid. She loved nature and animals and enjoyed all both had to offer. Katie had a true admiration of sharks, especially tiger sharks and even had a very large stuffed shark appropriately named “Sharkey” who kept her company during her battle with cancer. She was a brave young lady who didn’t complain or ask “why me”, but if her illness and the experimental treatments she endured could help other kids in the future, she was more than accepting of forging forward for a cure.

Katie is survived by her father, Robert “Bob” Steffens; mother, Christine “Chris” Steffens; and her brother Keith Steffens.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at eleven o’clock in the morning at Hardage-Giddens, Chapel Hills Funeral Home. The family will greet friends following the service at the funeral home.
