Larry began his 37 year career as an avionics technician when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy at age 19,
serving four years on active duty at NAS Jax and then at Naval Weapons Station Charleston, in support
of the Hawk Missile Test Program. Following a year in Cape Canaveral, where he worked as a
launchpad spacecraft technician for McDonnell Aircraft during NASANASA’s Project Gemini, Larry entered
civilian service in 1968 as a precision measurements mechanic. He worked as a microwave component
specialist in the NADEP Calibration Lab at NAS Jax until 1983, when he was hired by the NAESU
detachment (now NATEC) at NAS Cecil Field. Here, he specialized in avionics support system
maintenance for A 7e aircraft as well as radar calibration weapons system integration for the F/A 18
fighter jet, providing technical assistance and training for U.S. Navy personnel both on and offshore.
He retired from civilian service in 1998.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Marie Cascone Wilkinson as well as by six of his
siblings, his four children, five grandchildren, two great granddaughters.
