

Everette Leon Carrigg, lovingly known as Leon left this Earth February 16, 2020 surrounded by his large, loving family. Leon was born February 4, 1939 in Denmark, SC to the late Effie Clifton Carrigg and Rose Ella Hoover Carrigg. The fifth oldest of thirteen children, Leon spent his childhood in South Carolina and moved to Florida as a teenager where he met the love of his life, Patsy Sue O’Steen. Leon and Patsy married on July 18, 1959 in Nahunta, Ga and have spent the last sixty years by one another’s side. A retired mechanic, Leon spent his retirement tinkering in his garage, building custom golf carts and camping with family and close friends. Leon had a profound love of cars and racing that has been carried on to his lineage.
Leon is survived by his wife Patsy, children, Tuffy (Paula) Carrigg, Glynn Ray (Kim) Carrigg, Gayla (Dan) Markham, Michele (Michael) Smith, five grandchildren Kellie (Matthew) George, Kevin Carrigg, Keri (Randall) Pringle, Shelby Smith, and Robin Carrigg, four great grandchildren Aspen George, Hanna Smith, Pressley Carrigg and Ruby Rogers, four siblings Grace Gunells of South Carolina, Leroy (Vivian) Carrigg of South Carolina, Patricia Evans of South Carolina and Brenda (William) Bell of Texas, many nieces and nephews and faithful companions Tebow and Roxie. He is predeceased by his parents, siblings Wallace, Elvin, David, Reuben, Von and Lillian. Leon loved his family and cherished them more than anything. He will be remembered as a hardworking, family man with an infectious smile and great sense of humor. He will be missed by many.
His family will receive friends on Friday February 21, 2020 from 10 am to 12pm at Shindler Drive Baptist Church 7100 Shindler Dr. Jacksonville, FL 32221. His Celebration of Life will follow immediately after his visitation on Friday the 21st. Leon Carrigg's family will then take him to his place of rest at Riverside Memorial Park 7242 Normandy Blvd Jacksonville, FL 32205 at approximately 1:30 pm.
His family would like to invite everyone back to the church for a reception following his committal at Riverside Memorial Park. Hardage-Giddens Riverside is serving the family.
