

Lettie Jewel Hurst, age 94, was born December 18, 1930 in Clearwater, South Carolina, to Pearl and Walter McGee. She passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on February 12, 2025, at her home, surrounded by family. A devoted Christian, Lettie was a cherished member of Glendale Community Church for over 70 years.
Lettie attended Columbia Bible College (now Columbia International University), graduated from Georgia Baptist Hospital School of Nursing and went on to dedicate 30 years as a surgical RN at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville, FL. She married James Nathanial Hurst in 1955 and together raised a loving family in Jacksonville, Fl. She also enjoyed a residence in the beautiful mountains of western North Carolina. Lettie loved traveling with her husband in the US and internationally, as well as many mission trips. She found joy in arts and crafts, gardening, crocheting, creating flower arrangements, and the serenity of the mountains. Lettie had a passion for singing and was a member of many choral groups and choirs throughout her life.
She is survived by her daughter Suzanne E. Langenberg (Keith), daughters-in-law Kathy H. Sturgill (Nelson) and Bonnie Hurst-Harris (Shannon), grandchildren Eric Hurst (Cassie), Philip Hurst (Amy), Mark Sturgill, Meghan Dunn (Jack), Erin Orlando (Giovanni), “CJ” Hurst, Branden Langenberg, Stephanie Vincent, Bradley Langenberg (Kayce), and great-grandchildren Isaac, Abigail, Anna, Lillian, Harper, Logan, Evangeline, Ezra, Eliora, Summer, Elle, Alec, and Riley. She is also survived by her brother Marion McGee (Barbara), sister Neely Cotton, and sister-in-law Joyce McDonald, and many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Lettie was preceded in death by her husband James N. Hurst; sons Stephen R. Hurst and Christopher J. Hurst; grandson-in-law Cody Vincent; her sister Justine Lowe.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the mission funds at Glendale Community Church or Northeast Florida Community Hospice.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 6, 2025, from 5-7pm, at Hardage -Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home, 850 St Johns Bluff Rd, Jacksonville, Fl 32225.
Her life will be celebrated with a service on March 7,2025, at 10 am. At Glendale Community Church, 6411 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville, Fl 32216.
Lettie’s legacy of faith, love for family, and zest for life will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew her.
