

It is with great sadness that the family of Maetopa Pierce Carter Vickery announces her peaceful passing with family by her side at age 98 on December 29, 2025. Maetopa was born in Leakesville, Mississippi on April 14, 1927 in a farmhouse built by her father and mother; Barney Pierce and Lizzie LeNora Pierce.
It was in Leakesville, Mississippi where she graduated High School and played Basketball, along with playing piano at church. As a young adult, Maetopa moved to Mobile, Alabama where she worked for B F Goodrich. Maetopa moved to Jacksonville, Florida sometime in the 1950's where she became a telephone operator for Southern Bell. She spent 30 some years there before retiring.
Maetopa enjoyed her church, Murray Hill Church, where she sang in the choir and acquired many close friends. She loved going to garage sales on Saturdays. Maetopa liked going to new restaurants and sampling an array of desserts. Square dancing and gospel music were also part of her interests. She enjoyed watching football, especially the Jaguars and the Florida Gators.
Maetopa was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd Vickery and her grandson Brent Carter. She is survived by her children Katrina Lana Blanton, Wanda Blank (Jack), Howard Carter, Barney Carter and Nora Carter. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren and has one great great grandchild on the way.
A visitation will be held at The Riverside Event Pavilion, located at 1373 Memorial Park Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32205, on January 6, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
The funeral service will take place at The Riverside Event Pavilion on January 7, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
The committal service will follow at Riverside Memorial Park, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205, on January 7, 2026, from 11:00 am to 11:30 am.
