Margreeta J. Barber

Margreeta J. Barber, age 90, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away on November 4, 2023. A Jacksonville native, Margreeta was born on January 1, 1933 to Howard J. Jordan and Bernice M. Jordan. Margreeta attended Florida State University and the St. Luke’s School of Nursing. She later became a registered nurse and worked at St. Luke’s Hospital. During her career at St. Luke’s, she was a clinical instructor of infectious disease within the nursing program. She also was a pharmaceutical technician at Pierce Prescription of Downtown Jacksonville. Margreeta married the love of her life, James William (Bill) Barber on November 9, 1962.

Margreeta in her spare time enjoyed spending time with her family, was an avid Florida State fan, enjoyed football (including watching Florida Gator and Jacksonville Jaguar games), crafting, gardening, and playing the piano. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Jacksonville.

Margreeta was preceded in death by her parents Bernice Crews and Howard J. Jordan; her husband after 41 years of marriage J.W. Barber (Bill); her infant son, Charles Howard Barber; and one sister, Barbara J. Brooks.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Cheryl Fisher (Charlie) and Cynthia Barber; three grandsons Jesse Barber, Logan Fisher, and Zachary Fisher; great-grandchildren Sadie Fisher, Jaycee Barber, Jonah Fisher, Jaxton Barber, and Millie Fisher; nieces and nephews Debbie Derovanesian (Jack), Dale Brooks, Daneece Brooks Bowers (Rick), David Brooks (Cathy), Darrell Brooks (Marsha), Sandy Lipham, Joe Martin (Sharon), Geneva Anderson (Jeff), and Linda Hamrick (Steve).

A visitation for Margreeta will be held Friday, November 10, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens, Riverside Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 2:00 PM. A committal service will follow at Riverside Memorial Park.
