Born on February 24, 1942, in St. Joseph, Missouri, Mary Ann was the beloved daughter of Stephen James Belz and Anita Celia Derc. She grew up in Missouri and attended Sacred Heart Convent in St. Joseph, where her faith and sense of purpose began to take root. She later continued her education at Jones College in Jacksonville, Florida, where she would go on to build her life and family.
On June 29, 1963, Mary Ann married the love of her life, George Carl Loy. Their marriage was a beautiful partnership built on shared devotion, laughter, and a deep love for their family.
Mary Ann enjoyed a successful career in payroll services with Crowley Maritime, where she was respected for her dedication, attention to detail, and professionalism. Outside of work, she lived a vibrant life, rich with the people and activities that brought her joy.
A devoted mother and grandmother, Mary Ann was a proud supporter of her children’s and grand-children’s athletic pursuits—especially softball games, whether played by her daughters, granddaughters, or her favorite team, the Florida Gators. She found peace and happiness on the river, where she spent countless cherished hours.
Her love for animals was evident in her lifelong affection for Yorkshire Terriers, many of whom she raised and showed with pride. She also had a deep appreciation for horses and horse racing, and never missed the Kentucky Derby or the Preakness Stakes, watching with enthusiasm year after year.
Mary Ann is survived by her loving family: her sister, Carol Hunt; her brother, David Belz, and his wife, Jan; her daughters, Dechantal Loy, Tracy Edwards, and Stephanie Loy, and her husband, Gary; her grandchildren, Dexter Jackson, Gary Dailey, Tabitha Loy, Victoria Dailey, Aliyah Dailey, and Alexis Sears; as well as many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who brought light and joy to her later years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Loy; her parents, Stephen and Anita Belz; her sister, Patricia Hendrix; her granddaughter, Anita Loy; and her niece, Dallas Hunt.
Mary Ann Loy will be remembered for her strength, her love for family, and the warmth she brought to all who knew her. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those she touched.
John 14:27 - “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
