Mary Ann Betty Werts

Mary Ann was born in Offenbach, Germany on August 4, 1931. She met Rupert Werts, of Jacksonville at a dance during WWII while Rupert was serving in the Us Army, based in Germany. They married on November 27, 1948 in Germany, and Mary Ann came to the United States shortly thereafter aboard the Queen Mary. She an Rupert built a life together raising a family in Jacksonville until Rupert’s passing in 1973.

Mary Ann devoted her widowed life raising her three sons, being an active member of her church, and working with children and the elderly. She served as a nursery sitter for many years at the former Hyde Park Baptist Church. Her career as an elementary school cafeteria server spanned over 20 years. She then worked as a part-time daycare assistant at First Coast Christian School for 5 years before she permanently retired in 2012. Mary often volunteered to be an elderly caretaker for many years. After her retirement Mary enjoyed working in her yard, attending church functions and visiting with friends and neighbors.

Mary Ann is survived by 3 sons: Larry N. werts (Jan); Clyde A Werts (Jean) and Richard G Werts (Missy). She has 5 grandchildren: Ashley Werts-Brown (Bruce); Robbie Werts; Rebekah Nugent (Brian); Daniel Werts; and Julianna Werts. She also has 6 great-grandchildren: Aaron Werts; George Werts; Justin Nugent; Kalab Nugent; Ben Nugent and Brooke Nugent.

Mary Ann will be missed by all whose lives were touched by her generous heart, warm smile and unique German/Southern accent. May she forever Rest in peace and walk with God.

A graveside service for MARY will be held Friday, October 1, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens, Riverside Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205. A visitation reception will be held by the family inside the funeral home directly after the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Mary Ann's name be made to your favorite churchor charity.
