Mildred Gatewood White

Mrs. Mildred Gatewood White, 97, of Jacksonville, FL died Sunday September 14, 2025. Mildred was born November 5, 1927, in Madison NC to the late John Hardy Gatewood and the late Nancy Gibson Gatewood. Although she worked for twenty-two years at CSX Transportation, her true calling was as a mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Mildred was never happier than when preparing her fabulous meals for her family and friends. She was an active member for many years at Mill Cove Church -- serving at the thrift store, the Women of Faith and volunteering to prepare meals, sew and support outreach ministry in many other ways.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Houston Rieves White, three children, Michael Gatewood Register, Nancy Register Howard, and Thomas David Register, her Granddaughter Krystal Leigh Register and five brothers, John, Thomas, Hubert, George and Nelson and two sisters, Frances and Mary Ann.

She is survived by her daughter Cheryl Katterhenry {John}, sons Edward Register {Mary Ann}, Stephen Register {Judy}, Darrell Register {Kelly), Allen Register {Connie), and stepchildren Pat Pickard (Jack) and Steve White (Sheryl) and daughter in law Tania Nurse. Also, twenty-one grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

A visitation for Mildred will be held Saturday, September 27, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home, 850 St Johns Bluff Road North, Jacksonville, FL 32225. A celebration of life will follow beginning at 12:00 PM. A committal service will follow in the cemetery.
