Miles “Bo” Diehl graduated to heaven on Thursday, August 6th, 2015 with his wife, Candace, at his bedside and amongst family. His decision not to go through with chemotherapy for his recent bile duct cancer diagnosis was met with determination, courage and endurance. Having been diagnosed just 2 months earlier, he decided to beat cancer with eternal life in the presence of God! The third son of Robert and Katherine Diehl, Miles was raised in Houston, TX with four brothers and three sisters. Miles spent 6 years serving his country in the US Navy (1970-1976); which is where he got the nickname “Bo” and made many lifelong friends. He worked at the US Post Office for 30 years, primarily as an Electronic Tech, again making many lifelong friends. He loved to raise chickens, and over the years he also raised baby squirrels to adulthood, rabbits, pigeons, parakeets, geese, ducks, guinea pigs, guinea quail and any injured animal that found their way to him. After retirement in 2007, he planted and care for various fruit trees, worked in his garden growing organic vegetables and gained the nickname “Farmer Bo.” He considered the peaceful quiet of gardening to be like a sanctuary, close to God. He was a devoted husband and dad, a committed Christian, a faithful friend, a good listener and a hard worker. He loved to tell a good story and repeat humorous jokes. For the weekly men’s breakfast at Christian Life Church, he created a ministry to study a topic in the Bible, taking the time to hand-write the related scripture and then reflect and condense the message in an email that went out to his church family, relatives, friends, and even casual acquaintances he would meet. He never met a stranger. He often would say, “Life is about relationships.” Please hold him close in your heart and spirit, as I do, and find peace in one of his favorite scriptures:
“For me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.”
(Philippians 1:21)
