Monte Joseph Reynolds, son of Fred and Patty Reynolds was born in Groom, Texas, on June 16, 1952. He passed away June 24, 2021, after a lengthy and valiant battle against lung cancer. At the time of his passing, he was residing in his home in Jacksonville, FL.
Monte is survived by his daughter- Sonja Reynolds Taylor, his mother- Patty Reynolds, his sisters Chris Duggan (husband, Bob) and Rebecca Stumbaugh (husband, Thomas), and his brother Bill Reynolds (wife, Stevie), along with his many caring nieces and nephews. In addition to his family, he is also very lovingly remembered by his lifelong friends in Jacksonville and from his place of employment with the Jacksonville Electric Authority (JEA). He began his employment with JEA at age 19 and went on to continue lifetime of work in this field, retiring as a Control Room Operator, and in fact after retirement, he continued working as a consultant.
When asked about memories of Monte, his lifelong friend, James Taylor, said that among his JEA friends and colleagues, Monte’s nickname was “Mother Monte.” This affectionate moniker came about because Monte was a very caring and giving friend and colleague, always willing to help a person out if they had needs and concerns. As a final thought about his friend, James said, “All through his life, including the years that he was fighting cancer, he continued to be the most giving and caring man right up to the day that he died.”
Monte was passionately committed to learning everything about his many interests. If you provided him with a topic or question, he would investigate all possible answers and would get back with you with the details he had learned. His mother, Patty, believes this intensity developed when at the age of three, he developed polio. Patty remembers this young toddler being very intense and determined to not let the polio stop him from being an active and playful young boy.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on July 31, 1:00pm, at Tallahassee Heights United Methodist Church, 3004 Mahan Drive, Tallahassee, FL 32308, and will be officiated by Pastor Ken Hamilton. Light refreshments will be provided after the service. Monte’s friends and colleagues are welcome to join the family.
Messages of condolences may be sent to his mother, Patty Reynolds at Apt. 16-A, 3201 Miccosukee Road, Tallahassee, Fl 32308.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations are made to the March of Dime, a charity that Monte supported throughout his life. Marchofdimes.org
