

“Uncle Phil” proudly served his country as a Paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division of the US Army. His lifelong love of horses was reflected in his employment and passion for all things horse related. Fishing was another of life’s passions for him. The nieces and nephews will remember Uncle Phil and their fishing trips. In addition, he worked in the construction industry as a brick mason. Mr. Merritt was a member of Temple Baptist Church, Jacksonville, FL.
Mr. Merritt is survived by his brother Paul E. Merritt of Jacksonville, along with seven nieces and nephews. In addition he will be deeply missed by his devoted friends, Maudie Caldwell and Mike and Patty Frost. He is also survived by his sister-in- law, Donnie Merritt, formerly of Tallahassee, FL. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers, Homer Merritt and Jack Merritt.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 21st at 9:30 A.M. in Hardage-Giddens Town and Country Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 A.M., with Pastor Bob Galentine, of Temple Baptist Church officiating. Memorialization will be by cremation.
