March 18, 2012 Heaven’s doors opened and Ruby Gordon Gegan went home. Everywhere that Ruby walked her light shined. Everyone she met was touched by her heart of gold. She gave of herself in so many ways. Her life was marked by so many successes. She was a beloved Matriarch of the family. As a wife she was cherished by her two husbands as a strong and faithful woman behind the man. As a Mother to Larry, Donnie, and Belynda, she raised them with a fierce love and taught them character, integrity, and love of life. In the workplace, she was a well-known and loved leader and friend. She retired from General Food in 1990 and left behind a legacy of respect and admiration from all who worked with her. Her many gifts she leaves behind are a strong willed but gentle soul, her beautiful smile, her twinkling eyes and her contagious laugh. She had a great sense of humor and a unique ability to tell it like it is. She was in her element socializing, gardening, sewing, using power tools as she crafted her uniquely made birdhouses, or having tea with friends. Her passions were her children, grand-children, family, friends, pugs, and making the most of every moment. She will be missed but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her and loved her. Ruby is preceded by her parents Mathew and Clyde Black of Baxley, Georgia, husbands James B. Gordon and Francis Gegan of 24 years. Son, James D. Gordon, brothers; Harold Black and Lamar Black, and sister, Milda P. Payne. Ruby is survived by her son, Larry Kirkland and wife Shelly, daughter Belynda Greene and partner Jennifer Yates, sister Betty Adam and husband Carl; grandchildren; Mathew Kirkland, Alexis Kirkland, Jimmy Gordon, Beau White and Sarah Gordon; great-grandchild, Makayla White and numerous nieces and nephews. Ruby retired from General Foods. Ruby loved gardening and her yard. She loved and enjoyed all of her grandchildren. Ruby will be remembered for her great love of family and a determining spirit.
