Ruth Sodek Crouse

RUTH THOMPSON SODEK CROUSE, 93, of Alachua, FL, passed from this life to heaven on June 5, 2018 at Gainesville Health Care Center, Gainesville, FL. She was born July 25, 1924 in Waycross, GA to the late William Henry Thompson and Ethel Courson Thompson.

Ms. Crouse lived most of her life in Jacksonville, FL before moving to Alachua, FL in 2013. She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1942. She retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida in 1986 after 29 years of service. Ms. Crouse was a member of Riverside Park United Methodist Church, Jacksonville, FL.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Sodek, Jr.; former spouse, Walter Crouse; two sisters, Nettie Jones and Thelma Burnsed; daughter, Rosemary Coward; and son, William H. Sodek.

Survivors include two sons, Frank (Vera) Sodek, III of Alachua, and Gary (Debby) Sodek of Melbourne; daughter-in-law, Linda Sodek of Gainesville; nine grandchildren, Staci (Wes) Popplewell, Kevin Sodek, Robert (Julia) Painter, Scott Painter, Michele Painter, Charles (Carlette) Sodek, Ryan Sodek, Christy (Tim) Phillips and Kelly (Eric) Wachowski; ten great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Chad, Cordelia, Greydon, Jaxon, Kain, Kalista, Leiah, Makenzie, and Taylor; and three stepchildren, Betty Jo Doire, Cynthia Byrd, and Randy (Dawn) Crouse, all of Jacksonville.

The family would like to thank all the staff at Gainesville Health Care Center in Gainesville, Florida for the wonderful care they have given Ms. Crouse since December 2016. We would also like to thank the Patient Care Team at Gainesville Haven Hospice for their loving care during Ruth’s final days.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at Hardage-Giddens Riverside Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32205 with Rev. Emily Knight, Riverside Park United Methodist Church, officiating. Visitation will be at 1:00 PM, prior to the service. Interment will follow in Riverside Memorial Park.
