Sally M. Cross

Sally Esther (McLendon) Cross, born April 5, 1922, Alamo, Georgia, passed on to be with her husband, Donald L. Cross, Sr., and their Lord, Monday, August 27, 2018. Sally grew up in a farming family moving through several rural Georgia communities including her favorite, Brunswick. She and her family of four brothers, Dexter, Russell, Hugh, Dwight, and two sisters, Lois, Lillian, father Homer McLendon and mother, Sallie (Flanagan) McLendon moved to Jacksonville, Florida, in 1936. Sally graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in 1940. Sally married Navy Lt. Donald Cross July 31, 1942, in Jacksonville. They were married 70 years until his death in 2013. Don and Sally were members of Southside Baptist Church more than 60 years. Sally raised two boys while working as a secretary and administrator for numerous businesses and schools. She and Don were avid golfers at the Dunes Country Club and the Jacksonville Beach Municipal Course. After Don’s retirement from the Duval County School System he and Sally traveled widely over the United States and toured portions of Europe together.

Sally is Survived by Sons: Donald L Cross, Jr, Pinehurst, TX and Christopher D. Cross, Ft Myers, FL. Grandchildren: Dana Wolfe, Winston Salem, NC; Candace Vandegrift, San Diego, CA; Robin DeMasi, West Palm Beach, FL; Jeff Cross, Panama City, FL; Isabelle Cross, Pinehurst, TX; Jackson Cross, Pinehurst, TX; Porter Cross, Pinehurst, TX. Great Grandchildren: Colton Story, San Diego, CA; Madelyn DeMasi, Bonita Beach, FL; Nicholas DeMasi, Gainesville, FL; Morgan Cross, Cape Coral, FL; Kyle Cross, Cape Coral, FL; Lillian Wolfe, Charlotte, NC; Jared Wolfe, Raleigh, NC. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at HARDAGE-GIDDENS MEMORIAL PARK and FUNERAL HOME 7242 Normandy Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32205. A committal service will follow in Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery.
