On the afternoon of July 1, 2019, Sandra “Sandy” N. Matthews went to the Lord at the age of 65. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Early Childhood Education from Florida State College on May 6, 2011 at the age of 57. She had worked for Clay County School District for 5 years and previously for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida for over 30 years. Sandy was born in Brunswick, GA and grew up in SE GA. She married Jimmy D. Matthews in September 2000. Sandy has three children, Patricia, Jessica and Roger. They have five grandchildren, Charlie, Annabelle, Olivia, Kyle and Araminta (who preceded them to the Lord on June 2, 2019). Sandy was an avid believer in childhood education. She taught Sunday School, helped with VBS, was a volunteer reader at Bayview Elementary and spent many hours reading to her grandchildren. She especially loved her many friends at the Westside Club, San Marco Club, Grace House and Lakeshore UMC. A Memorial service will be held at Mandarin United Methodist Church on Saturday July 27, 2019 at 10 am with a reception following. Instead of flowers, the family request donations be sent to the Florida United Methodist Children’s Home at 51 Childrens Way, Deltona, FL 32725.
