

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on March 30th at Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home on St. Johns Bluff. Father Anthony Bonela of Holy Spirit Catholic Church will be officiating. Visitation will be held 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday March 29th at Hardage-Giddens Chaple Hills Funeral Home. Burial will follow the funeral at Jacksonville National Cemetery at 2:00 PM. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home, 850 St Johns Bluff North, Jacksonville, FL, 32225.
Stephen was born in Troy, New York on December 18, 1941. He graduated from LaSalle Institute and continued to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in History from Sienna College, of Loudonville, New York. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army. He spent twenty-eight years as an Artillery Officer and retired in 1991 as a Lieutenant Colonel. During his Army career, he was stationed in Germany, Korea, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Georgia, Kentucky and Washington, D.C. He also made a one-year combat tour in Vietnam. His Army career afforded him the opportunity to pursue a post-graduate education, and he received a Master’s in Business Administration from Central Michigan University.
Stephen was married to the former Theresa Marie Laware on October 5, 1963; they were married 53 wonderful years.
He enjoyed many hobbies and interests such as golf, and motorsport racing. He was also actively involved in his community at Viscaya on Hodges Boulevard.
Stephen is survived by wife Theresa M. Gamble, son Stephen J. Gamble, Jr., grandchildren Jeremy, Alexandria, Olivia and Danielle, and brother John W. Gamble of Richmond, Virginia. He is predeceased by his parents William and Helen Gamble, and daughter Mary Elizabeth Green.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to The Jacksonville Humane Society, and the Catty Shack.
