Virginia Abernathy, 78, born November 11, 1936 in Bonifay, Florida to Harmon C and Vesta Jewel (Roach) Mitchell ,went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 23, 2015 in Jacksonville, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents, her late first husband Glennis Hamilton, two sisters Eula Champagne and Mary Martin, one brother Hulon Mitchell. She was a member of Gospel Lighthouse Church. Virginia loved to shop, exercise, and was a wonderful care taker for the elderly. She was the best Wife, Mother and Mammaw that any child could have ever ask for. Virginia is now in heaven with her parents, her late first husband Glennis Hamilton, two sisters Eula Champagne and Mary Martin, one brother Hulon Mitchell. She is survived by her husband of 35 years Larry Abernathy; sons Glen Hamilton and Jimmy Hamilton(Teresa); daughters Debbie Dixon(Jim) and Denise Oakley (Phil), sisters Doris O. Becker (Ralph), Bonnie Mitchell, Jeanette Riley (Charles), and Janice Stukey(Henry); step-son Dale Hamilton; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren.Family will receive friends and family 1:00 – 2:00 pm Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at Hardage-Giddens Town & Country Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 2:00pm at the funeral home. Entombment will follow services at Riverside Memorial Park.
