

Mrs. Long was born in High Point North Carolina, in 1926 to Luther and Lavonia Caughron. She moved to Jacksonville in early 1950, and began work as one of the very few civilian women for the Florida Air National Guard in the Supply section. Mrs. Long worked there for 14 years before remarrying Wayne Long Jr., who was stationed at Mayport Naval Station. They moved to San Diego for 3 years, then came back to Jacksonville in 1969. Mrs. Long then began working for National Merchandise, the parent company that owned the Pic N Save retail chain. She worked there until her retirement at age 65 as the accounts payable manager.
Mrs. Long was preceded in death by her husband, Orville Wayne Long Jr, both parents, 5 brothers: Odie, Bobby, Willard, Jack, and Everette, and by 4 sisters: Ruby Allene, Nelly, and Juanita.
Mrs. Long is survived by her son, David A. Long, Keystone Heights, many beloved nieces and nephews and their children.
We wish to acknowledge the great care and compassion Ms. Wanda received from the wonderful staff of the Park of the Palms Assisted Living Facility over her last year; and to the Hospice of the Lakes nurses and caregivers that were so great during the last few days of her life.

A service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 18th 2015 at the Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home 850 St. Johns Bluff Rd. N., Jacksonville. Interment will follow in Chapel Hills Memory Gardens. www.hardage-giddenschapelhills.com
