Wendel Barry Castleberry

Mr. Wendel Barry Castleberry, age 79, of Fernandina Beach, Florida passed away on Friday, April 29, 2022. Wendel was born July 9, 1942 in Jacksonville, FL to Richard H. Castleberry, Sr. and Anna M. Castleberry.

He was married to his loving wife, Adeline "Addie" M. Castleberry for 57 years. Wendel graduated from Paxon Senior High School in June 1960 and served in the United States Air Force from June 1960 to June 1968. He achieved the rank of Staff Sargent (E-5) and was stationed in Misawa, Japan in the U.S. Air Force Security Service; in Randolph AFB, Texas in Air Training Command; and in Arlington, Virginia in Defense Intelligence Agency; and retired as a systems analyst in Jacksonville, Florida at the Defense Mega Center, Naval Air Station on December 31, 1998. After retirement he enjoyed fishing, classic cars and traveling.

Wendel is survived by his wife Adeline "Addie" Castleberry; children Wayne Michael Castleberry and Laura Ann Budke (Mark); grandchildren Stephen Michael Castleberry (Emily) and Carisa Nicole Doxzon (Drew); great-grandchildren Shelby Grace Castleberry and MacKenzie Zeigler; sisters-in-law Charlotte Castleberry and Dinah Castleberry. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins; great-in-laws and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Richard H. Castleberry, Sr. and Anna M. Castleberry; brothers Richard H. Castleberry, Jr. and wife Linda; John Wayne Castleberry and F. Raymond Castleberry; and very special friends James "Jim" Sheffield and Jewell Sheffield.

The family request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Wounded Warriors Project and Safe Animal shelter.

Visitation will be held Wednesday May 4, 2022 from 5-7pm. Funeral Service is 12pm Thursday May 5, 2022 at Hardage-Giddens Riverside Funeral Home with interment to follow at Riverside Memorial Park.

Arrangement are made by Hardage-Giddens Riverside Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32205. Pastor Dwayne Summer will be officiating the service.
