
Wesley H. Owens of Jacksonville Florida passed away at Baptist South Hospital on August 15, 2021 at 54 years of age. He was born and raised in Jacksonville on August 12, 1967 and graduated from Robert E. Lee Senior High School. He then attended the University of Florida and University of North Florida for his undergraduate degrees in history and law. Wesley then went on and graduated from Loyola University School of Law in New Orleans with a Jurist Doctorate degree. During Wesley‘s senior year at Loyola he was editor of the Poverty Law Journal. He practiced law in Jacksonville for nearly 20 years. After which he received a certification for Exceptional Student Education from the State of Florida and worked with the Duval County Public School System, helping children with special education needs.
Wesley was an avid reader of Christian doctrine. He was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in St. Augustine Florida, where he was a member of the Men’s Prayer Group. Wesley had a passion for camping at the many lovely parks and forests located in Florida and Georgia. His beloved dog Emily would accompany him on these trips before she passed away in November 2019. For the last several years Wesley learned the importance of being prepared for any situation. He learned first aid with the hope to help when and if needed. He also made sure that his mother was ready for any storm or hurricane coming our way.
Wesley was predeceased by his father, Tommy Owens, and by his grandparents Wesley D. & Carrie B. Owens and Otto & Josephine Mentzel. He is survived by his daughter Cameron Owens, mother, Bettyanne Owens; two sisters, Amy Summers and Carrie Boon, an aunt Linda Owens Myers, an uncle Richard Mentzel; three nephews, Clay Summers, JJ Boon & Max Boon, and niece, Brooke Summers, along with many cousins.
Arrangements by Hardage-Giddens Riverside Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Boulevard, Jacksonville, Florida 32205. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Jacksonville Florida on Saturday, September 25th, at 3 PM in the afternoon.
