Bud graduated from Robert E. Lee High School. Immediately thereafter he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard serving as a radioman. While in the Coast Guard Reserves, he pursued a career in the dental industry. He found sales to be his passion and worked for 45 years in the field, retiring due to health reasons from Patterson Dental Supply.
His heartfelt first love was the LORD. He loved to read the Bible and serve others in church and community. He wore a smile and had a quick wit. He was an encourager and believed in “staying by the stuff”. The Reed home was one of hospitality and open door. He was giving, faithful, dedicated, sacrificial and hard-working and determined. He was an encourager and believed nothing was impossible for God. He taught Sunday School for over 30 years and was ordained a deacon in 1975. Bud was an active member with First Coast Baptist Church until health intervened.
In younger days, Bud joined volunteers of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 14. He was past President of the Sons of the American Revolution, held multiple offices on the Board of the Southern Genealogists Exchange Society (SGES)and belonged to numerous genealogy societies. Genealogy became an interest in his later years.
His earthly love was his blended family of seven children and the family dog “Willow”. Bud was predeceased by his parents, Lois and Stan and grandson Jeremy Glen Ford. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Elizabeth “Betty” Reed, his sister Marilyn Wood, Jacksonville, and his seven children: Lori Reed, Canada; Scott Reed (Angie) St. Augustine; Stephen Reed(Carla) Lake Asbury; Angel Scarborough(Mike) Atlantic Beach; Ginger Harris(Karma); Cola Bailey(Stephen)Apollo Beach; Beth Leach(Terry) Newport, NC; 15 Grandchildren: 12 great grandchildren +4 expectant; eight nephews and numerous other family and friends here and in glory.
