Known to many as Bill Bowman, he married Pearl Luella Colby in January 1949. At the time of her death on February 12, 2020, they had been married for over 71 years.
Bill is survived by four children, William Andrew Bowman, Brenda Sue Bowman Charrie (James Charrie), Joseph Aaron Bowman (Dena Bowman) and Lori Beth Bowman Bauer; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Bill was next to the youngest of a family of eight children. On the farm, many days were spent doing adult chores.
He was a veteran of the Merchant Marines and the United States Army. After his honorary discharge, Bill joined the Apple City Motorcycle Club in Jackson.
Bill was employed at Henry’s Hickory House for more than 40 years. He was an outstanding example to his co-workers through his commitment and drive to be successful in all facets of his job.
His family and his church were his passions. His desire to see others trust Jesus as their personal savior was unmatched. He loved to talk to others about Jesus; many times, to strangers. Teaching Sunday school for many years and filling the role of a Deacon at a few Baptist churches in Jacksonville allowed him to share the gospel of Jesus.
He was a proud member of Riverstone Community Church in Jacksonville and faithfully attended while providing a helping hand wherever it was needed. His love for his church was evident by the positive impact he had on the life of others.
The family is thankful for Brenda Charrie’s unwavering love for her dad in her role as a full-time caregiver. Also, the team at Community Hospice was very supportive for Brenda during the last month of Bill’s life.
