William “Peanut” Carter Jr. was a loving son, brother, uncle, father, grandfather and friend. A lifelong resident of Jacksonville, Florida, William was born premature at seven months and weighed only three pounds, making him one of the smallest babies in the hospital and earning him the nickname “Peanut”, which was bestowed by hospital nurses and stuck with him throughout his life. He was a lover of animals, especially dogs, being companions to many over the years. Inherited from his father, he also had a passion for vehicles, especially classic trucks. He devoted many hours fixing up old trucks and developed a knack for mechanics. He owned and operated a successful construction business for some time and could build most anything from wood.
Peanut taught himself to read later in life, earning his GED on his own – an accomplishment for which he was very proud. Peanut was an admitted mama’s boy and loved his mother who stuck by him through thick and thin. He also was an avid artist, particularly skilled in pencil drawings, and he used this hobby to create gifts for family and friends throughout his life.
While his family is sad for his passing, we know he happily joins his father, William Carter Sr., and older brother Gary, who both preceded him in death. Peanut is survived by his loving mother Edna, sister Debbie, brother Mike, niece Saralyn, daughter Priscilla, stepchildren Robbie, Sandy and others, and many grandchildren who he loved very much.
