It is with deepest sadness that we announce the passing of William Peter Werner on January 13, 2025 at the age of 82 from complications of Agent Orange. He was born in Fort Worth, TX on April 23, 1942 to Joseph Andrew Werner Sr and Maymie Louise Werner (née Reynolds).
William served his country proudly, retiring from the United States Navy as a highly decorated Command Master Chief after 30 years. He was a leader with integrity and a strong work ethic. He followed up his illustrious military career with a second career at the hospital, retiring from Mayo Clinic as the plant operations director.
William was a loving father and an avid outdoorsman. There was nothing he enjoyed more than mowing his lawn, singing a silly song or dancing. He liked to go for long drives on Sunday mornings and was active with the VFW.
He is survived by his loving wife Ida Sue Werner (née Clark), sons Andrew Werner and David Werner, and daughter Riley (Griffin) Werner; brother Raymond Werner, sisters Sally (Incorvati) Werner and Elouise (Carter) Werner; Madeline Werner's daughters Shannon Pierotti and Stacy Seago, and sons Danny Seago and Kevin "Bo" Newberry; the spouses of these survivors, as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Preceded in joining the Lord by wife Madeline Werner, her son David Seago and daughter Stephanie Seago; sister Jane (Crane) Werner and brother Joseph Werner Jr as well as his parents Joseph and Maymie Werner.
To celebrate William's life and service to country there will be a crypt side service only on January 24, 2025 at 1:00pm at Riverside Memorial Park at 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205. We ask that you respect the family's wishes after the service as they grieve privately.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for anyone who wishes to make a donation on William's behalf at the Orange Heart Medal Foundation. This organization recognizes Vietnam Veterans who have complications from or have passed due to Agent Orange and they awarded William with an Orange Heart shortly before his passing. They can be found online at orangeheartmedal.org
