Mr. Phlong Yeth was born on July 3, 1944 in Srok Mongkol Borey, Banteay Menchey Province (formerly part of Battambang Province). He was born to Mr. Phlong Oeurn & Mrs. Chea Ep. His parents had 7 children: 3 girls & 4 boys—Ms. Phlong Sokhom, Ms. Phlong Sokhoeurth, Mr. Phlong Yoeurth, Mr. Phlong Yeth, and survived by the 3 youngest children—Mr. Phlong Chamroeun, Ms. Phlong Ruomie, & Mr. Phlong Ruon. From 1952-1958 Mr. Phlong Yeth started elementary school in Srok Mongkol Borey. From 1959-1966, he attended Preah Monivong High School in Battambang city. From 1967 he started Pédagogie University in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, to train to be a teacher in the subjects of Mathematics, Physics, & Chemistry. From 1968-1975 he became a teacher at Mongkol Borey High School.
He underwent the Khmer Rouge Regime in 1975-1979. At the end of 1979 he escaped to Thailand and lived in Khao-I-Dang Refugee Camp until 1980. In 1981 he was accepted by the US government to live in Pensacola, FL, where he married the love of his life Mrs. Pel Sakhoeurth shortly after arriving. They called Pensacola home from 1981-1986, then moved to Jacksonville, FL where he worked for Vistakon (a Johnson-Johnson Company) up until his retirement in 2008. After retirement, he moved to Atlanta, GA to help care for his grandchildren. His hobbies and talents included chess, making bamboo fish traps, and all things handy. He was the family’s “Mr. MacGyver” as he had a solution for any problem—if you needed something fixed, he was your man.
He had an unwavering devotion to his huge family. Mr. Phlong Yeth and wife Mrs. Pel Sakhoeurth have 5 children: 3 boys & 2 girls—Mr. Loch Chandara, Ms. Loch Lakhena, Ms. Loch Soline, Mr. Loch Chay Narong (deceased), & Mr. Phlong Wittia. They have 9 grandchildren: 4 girls & 5 boys—Pel Nicholas, Loch Jasmine, Pel Brandon, Loch Jefferson, Mean Ella, Mean Evan, Phlong Atticus, Phlong Mairii, & Loch Jacquelyn.
Two weeks before his passing, he returned back to his Jacksonville home where he was cared for by his loving wife, son, and younger siblings. On Wednesday, June 2, 2021 @ 9:59 PM he began his heavenly journey surrounded by his family and loved ones. While his passing is a tremendous loss to all of us, we know that his gentle soul may now Rest In Peace.
