Cheryl Chien-chien Lin Hong, 74, of West Bloomfield, Michigan, passed away on February 22, 2022. She was born in Tai-Chung, Taiwan on March 3, 1947. Cheryl graduated from Taipei First Girl High School and received a Bachelor of Science from Fu Jen Catholic University. She was married to Felix T. Hong on August 4, 1969. Shortly, Cheryl moved to New York City to join Felix in 1971.
Cheryl had a career in computer programming for financial institutions, as an employee of Comerica Bank for many years, and later as an independent contractor. She was a member of the Taiwanese Association of America and the North American Taiwanese Women’s Association. Traveling and music were two of her major hobbies, which she also shared with Felix. She managed to visit many countries around the world. She enjoyed making trips to exotic places like Machu Picchu, Peru, Cape Horn, Chile, and for exotic events such as the 1986 return of Halley’s Comet (in Berea, KY) and the 2017 total solar eclipse (in Knoxville, TN). She also relished the pilgrimage to Mozart’s Geburtshaus in Salzburg, Austria, Wagner’s Festspielhaus in Bayreuth, Germany, Museo Donizettiano and Donizetti’s hometown in Upper Bergamo, Italy, as well as major opera houses and concert halls, such as Wiener Staatsoper, Milan’s La Scala, and St. Petersburg’s Mariinsky Theatre, as well as countless visits to the beloved Metropolitan Opera in New York City. She was astonished to find that she even enjoyed a sip of vodka at the shore of Lake Baikal in Siberia, when the mood happened to be right.
She was survived by her husband Felix, son Filbert, daughter Cynthia, grandsons Luke and Benjamin, and brother James.
A celebration of life in lieu of a memorial service will be announced later.
