Al was born and raised in the small west Texas town of Girard, Texas, and until he died it was always home to him. He was the son of Dean Jay Young and Mary Duke Young. Al married Bonnie Kilpatrick in 1953 and from that point on was always known to friends as Al and Bonnie. During his life he also lived in Snyder, Lubbock, and Killeen, Texas.
His early life was spent on teaching Science in the Snyder school system and creating an educational business. Eventually he moved to Lubbock and was a salesman for an Educational Software company until he retired. After retirement he and Bonnie moved to Killeen to be near family. In Killeen he started a new venture- real estate development and investment. He stayed active in it until the day he died.
Over the course of his life, Al worked to take care of his family. He was involved in a local church and he valued contributing quietly to different charities and individuals. Al never stopped learning. He died while still sharp of mind and young at heart. Al Young was know to most as a storyteller. Those who met him were blessed with a tale, story, or memory that made you think or laugh. His stories were often about people who made up his early days growing up in Girard, and reminded you to appreciate the simple things, to always keep your friends close and to never take life too seriously. We will forever love and miss his presence.
