

Funeral service will be January 16, 2017, 11:00 am at First Baptist Church, Killeen, Texas with Pastor Randy Wallace conducing. Alvie Gerald "Pete" Hilliard was taken home to be with the Lord on January 11, 2017 at Indian Oaks Nursing Facility, Harker Heights, Texas. Alvie was born August 24, 1929 to Alvie & Gladys Hilliard in the Palo Alta Community, Killeen. He was the youngest with having two sisters, Dorothy Hilliard Hicks and Raynell Hilliard Rangle.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, daughter, Kathy Shewmake, granddaughter, Shannon Shewmake, stepdaughter, Brenda Zanek and adopted son, Ronnie Hilliard.
Pete is survived by his wife Arlys (Schorn), son Stephen Hilliard of Nebraska, daughter, Karen White (Dale) of Stephenville, Texas, extended children Roger (Alyson) Hockenbrocht of College Station, Texas, Wanda (Lin) Risner of Marshall, Texas, nineteen grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He attended Palo Alto and Reeces Creek School and while in Killeen High School, played on the undefeated Killeen Kangaroo Football Team, 1944-1948 and was Co-Captain of the 1947 football team. He attended Temple College in Temple, 1968 and later graduated from Mary Hardin Baylor, Belton in 1970.
After graduating from Killeen High School he joined the Navy in 1948 for 3 years but stayed in another year because the terms were frozen due to the Korean War in progress. The medals Pete received were the Navy Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal (with 1 Silver Star and 2 Bronze Stars), National Defense Service Medal, Navy Occupation SVC Medal (with Asian Clasp), United Nations Service Medal, Navy Honorable Discharge Button.
He worked for the Killeen bank in 1952 and then the Killeen Post Office in 1956. A job which he loved! He went to work at Ft. Hood in Military Pay in 1963 and became First Quality Assurance Auditor in Civil Service, Ft. Hood in 1970 and retired in 1989 as Chief 3 Corps, Ft. Hood.
Pete owned two service stations, Texaco on Rancier and Sinclair on Business Highway 190. He was also in the rental business. He loved playing golf and truly enjoyed volunteering at the Killeen Senior Centers where he served as President, Vice President and Treasurer, he also coached Little League Baseball for a number of years.
Pete was a member of the Harker Heights City Council 1989-1992, was Mayor Pro Tem in 1992, served on the Harker Heights Chamber of Commerce, Life members of the Veterans of Foreign War 3892 and American Legion 223.
Visitation will be a 10:00 am at First Baptist Church, Killeen with burial 2:00 pm on Tuesday at Killeen City Cemetery on Rancier. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Bob Gilmore Senior Center Project Renovation Fund or Immanuel Lutheran Church
