Anneliese Marie Mangan

Anneliese M. Mangan passed away with her children by her side, on December 12, 2012 in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 98. She was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, John W. Mangan, Sr., infant twin daughters Mary and Martha, mother and father, Marianne and Karl Jansen, brother Eberhart Jansen, sister and husband Hildegard and Fritz Ulbrich.

She is survived by daughter Patricia Mangan (Manny Reta), son John W. Mangan Jr, (Nancy), grandson John W. Mangan, III “Trey” (Erin), granddaughter Nikki Mangan-Reta, and great granddaughters Annaliesa, Clara and Liana.

Anneliese was born in Rogasen, Germany on December 16th, 1913. She spoke 3 languages and worked in Germany, France and Italy. She married John W. Mangan in 1950 in Bremerhaven, Germany, came to the U.S. and later became a U.S. Citizen.

For the next 20 years, she traveled the world as a military wife, dedicating her life to her husband and children. She participated in numerous volunteer roles, including the Fort Hood Thrift shop, Army Community Services at Fort Hood, more than 20 years as a Red Cross volunteer at Darnall Army Hospital at Fort Hood and was a member of the Killeen Lioness Club.

As a Red Cross Volunteer she also took blood pressures at several local banks and community centers for many years, resulting in many lasting friendships.

She moved to San Antonio 5 years ago to be close to her children and enjoyed many days and hours spending time with them. She enjoyed going out to lunch, knitting, crocheting, reading and gardening. Her grandchildren and great-granddaughters gave her much joy. She was cheerful, gracious, loving, humble and grateful for all she had. She was deeply loved.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Sonterra Health Center for their compassionate and loving care the past few months.

Graveside services will be held at 1:30pm on December 21, 2012 at Killeen City Cemetery. Interment to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the fund established for the victims of the 11/5/2009 shooting at Fort Hood, Texas.
