

Funeral service for CSM (Ret) C.W. "Buck" Buchanan, 88, of Nolanville, will be at 12:30 PM, Monday July 5, 2010 at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen with Rev. Jimmy Towers officiating. Burial will follow with full military honors at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery at 2 PM. He passed away in Temple on July 1, 2010.
Mr. Buchanan was born to Clayton and Eliza Buchanan on July 24, 1921, in Duke Center, PA. He served in the US Marines and US Army for 27 years retiring in Nolanville. He served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam while on active duty. He was awarded the following ribbons and medals: Air Medal w3 OLC///ARCOM w 3 OLC//Vietnam Service Medal//Vietnam Campagian Medal// Purple Heart w 2 OLC and the Bronze Star Medal w 2 OLC. After his retirement he served as Mayor of Nolanville for several years and was very active in the community. He was a charter member of VFW Post 3892, DAV Post 29, DAV Post 22, American Legion Post 573, Purple Heart Association, Sergeant Major Association as well as a member of the Elk Lodge 238, Moose Lodge 2129, Masonic Lodge 844 and Karem Temple Shrine's.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy of Nolanville, daughter Kathy Gaitan and husband Randy of Salado, daughter Kim Quinton and husband Vic of Lago Vista, son Ronald Buchanan of Oregon, son Ron Grantland of Phoenix, and son Tommy Grantland and wife Sheila of Houston. He is also survived by grandson Chad Tibbetts and wife Kelly of Belton, granddaughter Lacey Gaitan of Austin, granddaughter Ashley Fontenot and husband Chris of Austin, grandson Cameron Buchanan of Oregon and granddaughter Rebecca Buchanan of Oregon, great grandson Hayden Fontenot of Austin, and great grandson Cohen Tibbetts of Belton. Two sisters; Irene Burroughs of Eri, Pa and Mary Batko of Pottsville, Pa.
