The son of Eula (Arlene) and James Rhine, David was born on December 11, 1957, and raised in Belleville, KS before joining the U.S. Army at the age of 27 in 1984. He retired in 2008 after 24 years of faithful service to his country. During his enlistment, he never let it get in the way of his love for auto mechanics. Many a night you would catch him under a car at 10 pm after being up since 4 am for his military obligations. His wife, Tamara always teased him that he was actually married to the Army and that she was the lucky runner up. While enlisted he also held a second job to satisfy his unparalleled passion for wood working at Apache Arts and Craft on Fort Hood alongside his wife in the multi craft section. Although it wasn’t necessary we believe he worked these extra jobs not only to satisfy himself but to ensure his family would be very well taken care of. Upon retiring from the military, he did nine years as a prison guard at the TDCJ Hughes unit Gatesville, Texas.
David may have been the most stubborn man you could have ever met. Although he might not always show it, he had a huge heart and would not hesitate to help someone in need. Sometimes it backfired on him, but he never lost that generous heart, even until his dying days. As a family we had some extremely rough times, but at the end of the day all it did was bring us closer as a whole. What was very strained relationship amongst the entire family become a mostly thriving family that will bend over backwards for one another, and we owe it all to the amazing, but crazy man.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Tamara Lynn Rhine, three sons; James Andrew Rhine, Brandon Lee Head, Derick Kent Rhine and two daughters, Priscella Michelle Rhine and Justeen Michelle Rhine, two brothers, Donald (Jill) Rhine of San Antonio, Dennis (Jane) Rhine of Hebron, Nebraska, five sisters, Linda (Jim) Burton of Haddam, KS, Sharon Clark of Sedan, KS, Phyllis Thomas of Talmage KS, Glenda (Michael) Ulrich of Washington, KS, Alice Stepanek of Enterprise, KS and six grandchildren.
