Doris F. Inman

Doris was a beloved mother, sister, widow, auntie, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She was a trailblazer going to nursing school after having 3 children in the 1960s. She known for her determination and independence evidenced by purchasing a home in an all white neighborhood. Sending her children into a bathroom marked for “whites only” during the civil rights era. She maintained the family while her husband fought in Vietnam. Doris pursued her education, earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She embarked on a successful Federal Service career as an RN Nurse, leaving a lasting impact on those she cared for to include some of the first returning POWs from Vietnam.

As an Air Force Spouse and Federal employee, Doris understood the sacrifices and challenges of military life. She was a dedicated member of the Killeen Evening Lions Club, where she found joy in serving her community.

Doris will be deeply missed by her daughters Charlene Inman Smith and Patricia Anne Hensley, as well as her grandchildren (Charles A. and Jennifer Watson; Patrice J. Hensley and Darla Darsey) Great-grandchildren (Evan and Aubrey Watson; Coen A. Watson; Anissa and Michael Roberts; Janae Watson; Anthony M. Watson. Great Great grandchildren (Jasmine and Zenaya Castillo; Zion, Zaiden and Zuri Watson; Will and Ryker Roberts). Her Sister Argenia Cooper and Brother Freddie Ford and Sister in law Darnetta Ford.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. Inman, and her son, Alfred Kirk Inman. Her mother Beulah Moten, Her Father Nathaniel Ford and her Brother Johnny Ford. Many Nieces, Nephews, great and great great nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Service to honor Doris's life will be held on April 1, 2024, at 10 am at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, followed by a Repass at Westside Baptist Church, 711 Stagecoach Killeen, TX.

Doris will be remembered for her strength, kindness, and unwavering love for her family, friends and the Lions Club. May she rest in peace.
