

born to the late James Richard and Nannie Hill.
Dot confessed her life to Christ at an early age. She was a faithful member of the Army Chapel of Fort Hood. She served as a Lay Reader, Secretary of the Parish Council, Social Committee Chairperson and numerous other duties until her health failed.
Dot made a decision early in life to serve and protect her country. She enlisted in the Women’s Army Corp in July 1957. Dot was the first female first Sergeant at Fort Hood’s Darnell Army Community Hospital. While in the military she was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Service Medal,and Legion of Merit. She retired as a decorated First Sergeant from the United States Army in 1980, after 23 years of dedicated service.
After retiring she attended Central Texas College and obtained her Associates Degree in Business Management. She went on to manage the Fort Hood Thrift Shop from 1986-1997.
Dot was always active, athletic, involved in family events, and volunteered in numerous community organizations. She was an avid bowler winning numerous trophies. She maintained fitness by participating in team sports to include softball, bowling, boating and fishing. She was always involved with planning family gathering and was a true organizer. Dot and Melvin traveled and enjoyed trips throughout the United States, overseas and she loved cruises. She was dedicated member Black Women in Military Service, Women’s Army Corps Veterans’ Association, Womenin Military Service for America, Fort Hood Retiree Council and Fort Hood NCO Wives Club.
Dot was united in Holy Matrimony to the love of her life Melvin Dixon for 43 years. They were so in love they were married twice; April 14 and April 18, 1976. When Dot became ill in 1998 Melvin cared for her faithfully until her Sunset on July 29, 2013.
Dot was preceded in death by her mother Nannie Hill Williams, step-father Howard William, sister Sarah Chapman, brother James Hill, and step-son Timothy Lamone Dixon.
She leaves to cherish a devoted husband Melvin Dixon, her sisters: Rebecca Davies, Ida Hill of Middletown, New Jersey, Acquabel Ross of Shrewsbury, New Jersey, Ester Hill of Long Branch, New Jersey and brother, Bennie Hill of Long Branch. Dot was a loving step-mother to MelvinDixon Jr., Bonita Owens and Alonzo Dixon. Her love and kindness will be truly missed by hergrandchildren, beloved brother and sister in-laws, a host of nephews, nieces and friends.
The Dixon family will receive guests for a time of visitation on Friday, August 2, 2013 from 6-8PM at Crawford-Bowers funeral home of Killeen. A home going service will held on Saturday,August 3, 2013 at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of Crawford-Bowers funeral home of Killeen.
