Faye Jean Pace

A Celebration of Life Visitation and Memorial Service for Faye Pace, 82, of Killeen Texas will be held at Crawford Bowers Funeral Home of Killeen on Saturday, 17 November at 2 pm. A private interment will be held at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery at a later date.

Faye was born at the family home in Greensboro, NC and enlisted in the newly formed Women’s Air Force after graduation from Greensboro High School. She served from May 1949 to January 1951. Her active duty time was spent in San Antonio, TX. She attained the rank of Corporal before leaving active duty to continue to serve as a military wife and mother.

As a military wife she traveled to Japan, the Netherlands, and the Philippines, as well as various stateside assignments. She volunteered with the Red Cross and was involved with Wives’ Club activities in support of her military community.

After her husband’s retirement from the military in 1970, Faye lived in Washington. She attended Fort Steilacoom Community College to study hotel motel hospitality and was introduced to quilting, a hobby she continued to enjoy for years to come.

In 1982 she relocated to Texas, living at South Padre Island and working as a condominium manager. Later she moved to San Antonio, and then to Killeen in 1986.

Faye started working for the Killeen Independent School District as a substitute teacher and attended Central Texas Community College. She was recognized for her academic excellence and student leadership in Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges, 1987.

In 1989, she took a full time position at Pershing Park Elementary School. She touched the lives of many teachers and students during the seven years she spent on the faculty.

She is survived by her brother G. Warren Lamb of Greensboro; daughter Jeanne Pace of Killeen; daughter Tracey Pace of Kempner; former husband Edward Pace and daughter Cheryl Pace.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you “pay it forward” by supporting a child or family in need during this upcoming Holiday Season.
