Mr. Rubert was born on September 30, 1934, in Morovis, Puerto Rico to Felix Rubert-Jimenez and Juana Negron, the fifth of seven children. At the age of 17, he enlisted into the U.S. Army. Not long after, in 1958, he met his beautiful wife Maria and married her on December 20, 1959 and together they raised 5 children. In 1967, he was stationed in Fort Bliss, Texas, where he would eventually retire from the U.S. Army, after honorably serving for 23.5 years.
After leaving the military in 1976, Felix fulfilled a life-long goal of obtaining a college degree. He did this by earning a Bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Texas at El Paso. He then worked as a zone manager for Circle K grocery, and soon had an opportunity to become a franchise owner of one of their stores; he successfully ran the Truth or Consequences, New Mexico store for 8 years. In 1987, he left Circle K to work on his own, running two businesses with his three sons. He retired from those businesses and moved to Killeen, Texas in 1995. Never one to rest on his laurels, he worked as a teacher’s aide for Killeen ISD, as well as working on Ft. Hood at the PX and the Picnic Palace. In 2008, he fully retired to be with his wife and enjoy life.
Mr. Rubert leaves a long list of personal and professional achievements. He was most proud of having spent 53 wonderful years with his loving wife, their five children, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
