

Henevelyn India Woodson was born on May 3, 1930, in New Orleans, LA. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized in 1940. She married her one and only love, Marshall Smith, on March 12, 1950, and became a military spouse when Marshall was drafted into the US Army in 1952. Henevelyn joined her husband in every place the Army would allow, and in 1966, they moved to Killeen, Texas. She remained in Killeen, until her passing on January 26, 2026.
Henevelyn has always been an avid prayer warrior. The family joined Pershing Park Baptist Church in 1968. Henevelyn taught Sunday School, was active in the Women’s Mission Union, organized Moms in Prayer for the Killeen area, chaired the Rosewood Nursing Home services, and served as a Deaconess. She was the oldest female member of Pershing Park Baptist Church, and was called Mom by many. She will be remembered for her faithful service and love for all.
During her daily morning devotional times, with her husband, Henevelyn always prayed for her seven children, eighteen grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren, and six great, great grandchildren. Her children loved her dearly and are grateful that God gave them a Proverbs 31 mother for many, many years.
Henevelyn retired from Meadows Elementary School, after working as a teacher assistant for 13 years. She was a member of the Golden Age Club in Belton, TX, and also participated in Cancer Survivors Retreats and meetings.
Henevelyn was preceded in death by her mother, Evelina McDaniels; fathers, Henry Woodson and Reginald McDaniels; siblings, Mitchell Woodson, Lillian Woodson, Henry Woodson, Isabell Woodson, Ronald Woodson, George McDaniels, Ella Mae Baptiste, Reginald McDaniels, Jr., Audrey Mae Jackson, and Josh McDaniels; son, Kevin T. Smith; grandson, Marvin W. Smith, Jr; granddaughter, Jasmine Smith, and great, great grandson, Wesson W. Smith.
Left behind to cherish her memory is her devoted Husband, of 75 yrs: Marshall Smith; Brother: Melvin (Maggie) McDaniels; Sister: Rev. Mary Ann Robinson; Sister-in-law: Patricia McDaniels; Sons: Marvin W. Smith; COL (Ret.) Marshall H. Smith, MD; Daughters: Michele E. Smith (Roy) Andy; Robin R. Smith, MPA, CPA; Karen A. Smith (Raul) Byrd; and Dana E. Smith.
She also leaves behind a host of much-loved grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends, “other” children, prayer partners, and a legacy of love.
Visitation will be held on February 11, 2026, from 5-8 pm, at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home, Killeen, Texas, followed by the funeral service on February 12, 2026, at 12 noon, at Pershing Park Baptist Church, Killeen, Texas. Burial will follow at Central Texas Veterans Cemetery, in Killeen, Texas.
