JoAnn grew up on a farm where she picked cotton and farmed with her family. She was baptized in a horse trough beside a windmill in Dozier, Texas and remained a faithful member of the church of Christ the rest of her life. She attended school in Samnorwood and Shamrock. JoAnn graduated from Shamrock High School in 1955. She was proud of being a country girl from the Panhandle of Texas. The summer before she graduated she came to Killeen to spend summer with her sister and met the love of her life Garland Lee Kelley. They were married February 18, 1956 and were together 62 years until Garland’s passing in 2018.
JoAnn and Garland raised their family on a farm south of Killeen. She worked for KISD for 25 years as an instructional aide. Her true joy was taking care of her family.
